Wear White At Nite

WEAR WHITE AT NITE Art Muggings was the culminating event in Old City Arts’ Spring Festival, 1977. This groundbreaking event was a guided tour through the maze of streets and alleyways of Old City, where more than 50 artists installed their work and/or performed along the way. This event firmly established the artists’ presence in the neighborhood, drawing unexpectedly large audiences and critical acclaim.

The outdoor event featured an inventive format that transformed a guided tour into a unique interactive arts experience. This format, which at the time had no precedent, was a first in site-specific, collaborative performance art. It was the original idea of visual artist, Harriet Knopman, filmmaker, John Lafont and dancer, Eileen Mulgrew.
